E-3A aircraft return from successful Operation Unified Protector

NATO Air Base, Geilenkirchen, Germany – On the afternoon of 1st of November 2011 the last two E-3A aircraft returned from Operation Unified Protector to Geilenkirchen Air Base. These aircraft had flown the very last missions on 31st of October during the NATO operation over Libya.

On Tuesday 11 October, Oana Lungescu, the NATO spokesperson, briefed the press on events concerning Libya. She was joined by Colonel Roland Lavoie, Operation ‘'Unified Protector'' (OUP) military spokesperson, who will brief by videoconference from Naples on NATO's operation in Libya in support of UNSCR 1973.

Ministers determined to pursue operation in Libya as long as threats persist

NATO Defence Ministers and Partners involved in Operation Unified Protector today in Brussels discussed the prospects for ending the mission for Libya. Ministers affirmed that the time for terminating Operation Unified Protector is approaching but that the mission is not over yet.

NATO strikes shield civilians in Sirte

 In the last twenty-four hours, NATO aircraft, as part of Operation Unified Protector struck a series of targets Qadhafi forces used in order to threaten the civilian population of Sirte. Among the targets were: an ammunition storage facility, an anti aircraft gun, a command and control node, and two armed vehicles.
