SPANISH CONTINGENT CELEBRATES NATIONAL DAY IN STYLE

ARRCs Spanish Partner Nation celebrated Spanish National Day in style today. In a truly traditional reception at the Reaction Forces Officers Mess, the Spanish contingent hosted scores of their ARRC colleagues of all nationalities to some of the best of Spanish food and wine, to mark the occasion in appropriate style.

As the guests, among them COMARRC, Lieutenant General Sir Richard Shirreff, enjoyed Spanish tapas and wine, they were warmly greeted by the Spanish Senior National Representative, Lieutenant Colonel Alejandro Rubiella, SO1 G7.

Reviewing the significance of their special day, Lieutenant Colonel Rubiella said:  "There is nothing better than to celebrate Spanish National Day with the friends and colleagues whom we work alongside. This day remembers the 12 October 1492

and the expedition led by Christopher Columbus to the new world
, which has given us a new continent, new culture and a new way.  I am sure that in the coming year we will share many rewarding moments, both professional and personal, during our deployment to Afghanistan, but today is a special opportunity to enjoy fine Spanish wine and tapas.   In conclusion, I would like everyone to fill their glasses with good Spanish wine and toast to the Chief of the Spanish Army and the First Soldier of the Country, His Majesty King Juan Carlos 1.
