Defense Reform of the Armed Forces Bosnia and Herzegovina (AF BiH) represents a key component to the strategic goal of entering and contributing to the NATO structure. This commitment by BiH is represented by a continual process' to include a combination of restructuring of the existing defense program and reshaping to meet the future needs of both Bosnia and Herzegovina and partner nations. It is within these actions that have been established since the Dayton Peace Agreement where technical and tactical experience of a military nature is provided. Advisement of a military nature must integrate and coordinate with the political dynamics of a multi-faceted governmental system in the pursuit of national goals.

With the 2010 NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP) condition, the Technical Military Advisory Section will continue its primary mission to provide professional military advisement in all military technical aspects of the AF BiH to implement DEFENSE REFORM and PARTNERSHIP for PEACE (PfP) programs with regard to capacity building in order to establish accession and further contribute to Euro-Atlantic Integration. With TMAS support of the ongoing process to meet capacity and pace requirements consistent with other regional areas, BiH has succeeded in developing both organization and ability to train and deploy forces in cooperation with ongoing Peace Support Operations throughout the region establishing both interoperability and sustainability of force currently deployed to Afghanistan and is prepared to provide additional support in the near future.

TMAS advisors are committed to assess, evaluate, advise, and coordinate directly with AF BiH counterparts of the Ministry of Defense and AF BiH Joint Staff within multiple disciplines of Logistics, Human Resources, Equipment, Force Development, Training, Standardization, Infrastructure, Communications, Non-Commissioned Officer Program, Intelligence, and Plans and Organizational development. Within these areas HQ NATO Sarajevo provided a base and continuing continuity of a professional military working relationship using a common language within defense institutions. These disciplines will converge to the creation of a single establishment within the AF BiH that will be viewed as a credible, capable, competent force, that will meet the requirements within the borders of BiH and expand to meet the future requirements of the international community.
