Brigadier General Sabato Errico was born in 1952 in Apice, (Benevento). After attending the 154th Military Academy Course (1972 – 1974) and the Military School of Applicationand Specialisation in Turin (1974 – 1976), he was assigned asa First Lieutenant to the 8th "M.O. Secchiaroli” Tank Battalion in Aviano (Pordenone).
In his early career, he served asPlatoon Leader and Company Commander as well as Chief S3 in the 8th Tank Battalion. From 1984 – 1986 he was Tow Antitank Company Commander at the 132nd "Ariete” Armoured Brigade, in Aviano.
During the period 1986 – 1990, he attended the General Staff Course and the Advanced General Staff Course, both at the Italian Army War College, and the Army War College of the Argentinian Army in Buenos Aires (Argentina).
Consequently, he served as Staff Officer G3 Operations Planning in the G3 Operation Division of the Italian Army General Staff in Rome (1990 – 1993).
In 1993, he took over command of the 31st"M.O. Andreani” Tank Battalion at the 8th "Garibaldi” Mechanised Brigade in Persano (Salerno).
From 1994 – 1999 he served as Chief Training and Exercises Section at the G3 Training Division and as Chief Force Planning Section at the Planning Division in the Italian Army General Staff in Rome.
In 1999 he was appointed Commanding Officer of the Military District in Milan. In the following tour of duty (2001 – 2004) he was assigned to NATO HQ in Brussels where he served as Chief of the Political Military Division with the Italian Delegation to NATO.
On 1 January 2005 he was promoted to Brigadier General and assumed command of the Army Training Brigade at Capua (Caserta). After two years command he was appointed Chief of the Simulation Department at the Army Simulation Centre in Civitavecchia in Rome.
On 20 May 2007, Brigadier General Errico assumed the post of Deputy Chief of Staff at the Army Schools Command. On 15th January he began his latest assignment as Commander of NATO HQ Sarajevo and Senior Military representative.
Brigadier General Errico holds a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Strategic Sciences from the University of Turin, a Bachelor's degree in International and Diplomatic Sciences from the University of Trieste and a Master's degree in International Political Affairs from the "Belgrano” University of Buenos Aires. Brigadier General Errico has attended specialised courses at the NATO School in Oberammergau (Germany) in Mobilisable Forces,Resource Management Education Programmes and Arms Control.
In addition to his native Italian, he speaks English, French and Spanish. Brigadier General Errico's decorations include, among others, Knight of the Italian Republic Order of Merit, Officer of the Italian Republic Order of Merit, Meritorious Officer Cross with swords of the Malta Sovereign Military Order, Gold Cross for Long Service, Medal for Long Period of Command, Gold Medal "Mauriziana”, CommemorationMedal for "Vespri Siciliani” and "Riace” Operations.
He is married to Ilsa and they have two sons, Domenico (19) and Herman (18).
