Brigadier General David Enyeart of the Oregon National Guard is a native of Toledo, Oregon. Toledo is a town located about ten kilometers inland from the central Oregon coast of the Pacific Ocean.
Prior to taking command of NATO HQ Sarajevo General Enyeart was the Assistant Adjutant General-Army, of the Oregon National Guard. He was also the Deputy Commanding General, Army National Guard, United States Maneuver Support Center.
As the Assistant Adjutant General-Army, his responsibility was to assist the Adjutant General in all aspects the operations of the Oregon Army National Guard and to fulfill the role of the Adjutant General during periods of extended absence.
General Enyeart also served as the Deputy Commander for Joint Force Headquarters with command and control responsibility for the Headquarters Detachment, Oregon State Defense Force, Camp Rilea Training Site Command, 249th Regional Training Institute and separate units assigned to Joint Force Headquarters. He was responsible for the mobilization readiness in Joint Force Headquarters, including Joint Force Headquarters support of home station mobilization.
General Enyeart first enlisted in the Army in 1978. He received his commission through Officer Candidate School in June 1985. From June 1985 until February 1995 General Enyeart served in various positions in the 2-162 Infantry Battalion to include Mortar Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer and Company Commander. From March 1995 until July 1995 he was the Assistant Operations Officer for the 41st lnfantry Brigade in Portland, Oregon. In July 1995 he returned to the 2-162nd lnfantry Battalion as the Operations Branch Chief (S3).
In August 1998 General Enyeart was assigned as Battalion Commander 2-162nd lnfantry Battalion. From October 2001 until May 2004 General Enyeart served with the 41st Infantry Brigade as the Brigade Operations Branch Officer (S3) and the Executive. General Enyeart deployed to Afghanistan in June 2004 as Commander of an Embedded Training Team, after being promoted to Colonel in February 2005 he was assigned as the Deputy Task Force Commander, both assignments were with the 76th Infantry Brigade, Indiana National Guard, Task Force Phoenix III, in Kabul, Afghanistan until August 2005. Upon his return to Oregon he rejoined the 41st lnfantry Brigade in Portland as the Deputy Commander.
Deploying for a second tour in Afghanistan in January 2006 General Enyeart was the Deputy Commander, 41st lnfantry Brigade Combat Team (Forward). In Afghanistan General Enyeart was also the Deputy Commander of Task Force Phoenix V, which coordinates the Embedded Training Teams that are training the Afghan National Army and Police.
Returning from Afghanistan in July 2007 he was promoted to Commander of the 41st lnfantry Brigade Combat Team, Portland, Oregon in August. It was in February 2008 that General Enyeart assumed the duties of Assistant Adjutant General (Army), Oregon National Guard, and Deputy Commanding General, Army National Guard, United States Maneuver Support center, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. In May 2010 General Enyeart deployed to Bosnia and Herzegovina as the Senior Military Representative and Commander of NATO HQ Sarajevo.
General Enyeart graduated in 1995 from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science degree, specializing in Psychology. In 2007 he received a Masters of Science Degree from the United States Army War College, Strategic Studies, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.
Outside of the military, General Enyeart has had a successful career in law enforcement, as a Police Officer and Detective and recently being named Chief of Police for Toledo, Oregon. Brigadier General Enyeart holds a number of awards and decorations, the most significant being the Legion of Merit , Bronze Star Medal (with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), the Meritorious Service Medal (with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (with 1 Silver Oak Leaf Cluster) and the Army Achievement Medal (with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster).
General Enyeart is married with one adult daughter. Among the things he will miss most while in Sarajevo is riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
