Counter Piracy Workshop Focuses on Unified Standards

THE HAGUE, Netherland – Rear Adm. James Foggo, deputy commander, U.S. 6th Fleet, arrived in The Hague, Netherlands Dec. 14, to speak at a international workshop dedicated to the creation of a unified manual to use when investigating and prosecuting acts of maritime piracy. Foggo was invited to speak at the workshop by the European Law Enforcement Agency (EUROPOL) and presented the audience with a military operations perspective on acts of maritime piracy.

Exercise ‘Steadfast Juno’ Welcomes Iraqi Observers for First Time

Military representatives from Iraq, Morocco, Bosnia-Herzegovina and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia are observing for the first time in NATO exercise 'Steadfast Juno', 13-14 Dec. 2010. The purpose of the exercise is to train NATO deployable forces in the planning and conduct of crisis response operations to restore peace and security and to support reconstruction and humanitarian assistance in remote areas.

Spirited Music for the Holidays

Naples, Italy – JFC Naples headquarters personnel from Germany, France and Great Britain look on as U.S. Navy military musicians of the highly acclaimed Allied Forces European Band made a special visit to JFC Naples headquarters to perform special holiday music. The quartet toured throughout the Naples-based headquarters and entertained U.S. Navy, Army and Air Force Support Element personnel, as well as hundreds of employees and service personnel from nearly two dozen nations. The band provides superior musical support.

“Army of One” celebrates U.S. National Guard birthday

Naples, Italy – Maj. Gen. Bill Wade, Operations Director at JFC Naples, prepares to board a helicopter recently at Sather Air Base in Iraq to visit NATO Training Mission-Iraq (NTM-I). This week marked the 374th birthday of the National Guard of the United States. Unlike other nations and services that have teams of people and resources to call upon to celebrate, Wade is truly an "Army of One,” serving as the senior and sole member of the U.S. Army National Guard at the Naples, Italy-based Allied Force Joint Command headquarters.

JFC Naples Tree Lighting Ceremony

Exercise Steadfast Juno Kicks Off

JFC HQ Naples, Italy - STEADFAST JUNO 2010, a NATO Command Post Exercise, commenced Dec. 6 and will run through Dec. 15 2010. The exercise will be conducted at six different locations simultaneously in Italy, Belgium, Norway and Turkey.

JFC Naples Sailor Frocked in Kuwait

Camp Virginia, Kuwait - Petty Officer 2nd Class Justin Harlon was frocked by Cdr. Demetries Grimes while in temporary duty status en route to further service in Afghanistan. Harlon is a Master at Arms forward deployed from his regular duty station at Allied Joint Force Command Naples.

Locklear Praises Contributing Nations In Iraq

Baghdad, Dec. 1, 2010 - Admiral Samuel J. Locklear, III traveled to Iraq on his first visit as Commander Allied Joint Force Command Naples this week to reaffirm NATO's commitment to the mission at the request of the Government of Iraq and to recognize our contributing nations for their efforts. While there he recognized dozens of NATO troops for their service and sacrifice to the NATO training mission.

Slovakia withdraws the troops from KFOR

The Slovakian KFOR contingent has accomplished its mission in Kosovo and the
last soldiers will return home by this week according to the previous announcement of the Slovak Prime Minister, Dr. Iveta Radičová during her recent visit in Kosovo.


Outstanding Military Service Member Second Half 2010 Awarded by Admiral Samuel J Locklear III

Master Warrant Officer Sharon Power, Canadian Air Force, currently assigned to the Protocol Office in the SoS, became the Outstanding Military Service Member Second Half 2010 at Joint Force Command Naples on the 22nd November. Commander JFC Naples Admiral Samuel Locklear presented her with the award. After the award ceremony, ADM Locklear hosted a luncheon for all the nominees.


NATO ship rescues stranded sailor while patrolling in Eastern Mediterranean Sea

Naples, Italy: 17 November 2010. Earlier today the Spanish Ship ESPN Marques de la Ensenada was alerted to a small craft in distress after the lone passenger in a stranded boat fired a signal flare. Upon approaching the six meter launch the crew discovered that the passenger Mr. Hassan Hamut had been adrift for several days after an engine failure. He had also run out of food and water.



Ukrainian ship joins NATO’s counter-terrorism surge in eastern Mediterranean

This week, Ukraine sent a warship to the Mediterranean to assist NATO's Operation Active Endeavour, which aims to detect and deter terrorist activity in the region. The ship's crew will participate in surge operations, helping to monitor civilian shipping, collecting and analysing information on suspicious vessels and accompanying ships carrying important cargo if required.
