Tirana

March 1999, as a result of the Kosovo conflict, NATO established a logistics support command in Albania to facilitate sustainment operations to the Kosovo Force (KFOR), in support of peace operations in the Kosovo theatre.
 
On 31 August 1999 the mission "Allied Harbour” was concluded and a "Communication Zone (COMMZ) West" was established. An Allied Headquarters with authority extended throughout Albania, COMMZ West was included in the Kosovo Force (KFOR) structure.
 
On 17 June 2002 NATO HEADQUARTERS TIRANA (NHQT) was created to assist and support the government of Albania in an advisory role in relation to NATO membership activities.
 
The command, currently located in the centre of Tirana, has in addition a NATO Advisory team located in the Ministry of Defense, Public Information and Political Advisor offices.

Commanded by the NATO Senior Military Representative (SMR), the NATO Headquarters Tirana is to facilitate co-ordination between the Government of Albania, Organisations of the International Community and NATO.
