NATO Training Mission-Iraq Celebrates its Fifth Anniversary

BAGHDAD, Iraq, 4th August 09 – NATO Training Mission-Iraq celebrated its fifth anniversary. The Commander of the NTM-I, Lt. Gen. Frank Helmick, and the Deputy Commander, Maj. Gen. Giuseppe Spinelli, addressed their personnel lined up at the mission headquarters.
The many and valuable achievements of the mission so far have been remembered and highlighted by both Generals in their speech.
Helmick stressed that after the signature of the agreement with NATO, which allows NTM-I to continue in its training, mentoring and advising role in the favor of the Iraqi Security Forces, Iraq is now a new country with solid relationships with the world's most important and influential organization.
Spinelli expressed his great satisfaction for the work done so far by the mission, saying that, "The signature of the Agreement provides us with an important responsibility and awareness on the importance to keep going on with our mission. We will continue on this successful path and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for the tremendous efforts you have done up to now. I am conscious that we will have to face new challenges but together with our allies and friends we will succeed.”
Attendees were later offered a dinner and had the occasion to spend some time with their commanders, taking pictures and enjoying the beautiful evening.
